Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is it made of?
A: CorrectDeck is crafted from recovered hardwood fibre and rugged, UV-stabilized polypropylene. CorrectDeck combines a unique polypropylene-based formula with a highly advanced manufacturing process to yield a superior material. CorrectDeck was the first composite decking manufacturer to use polypropylene instead of polyethylene. Polypropylene (think of Tupperware®) makes it stronger, stiffer, and lighter than other composites, so it can span longer distances and withstand higher temperatures with less expansion and contraction.

Q: Will CorrectDeck rot, splinter, or decay like wood?
A: Definitely NOT! CorrectDeck products are manufactured to exacting, reproducible specifications. They exhibit exceptional resistance to corrosive substances, oil and fuels, insects, fungus, salt spray, and other environmental stresses. The composition does not absorb moisture; therefore it will not rot, splinter or crack.

Q: Does CorrectDeck come with a warranty?
A: Yes, CorrectDeck comes with a 25-year warranty from the date of installation against rot, decay, splitting, checking, splintering or termite damage under normal conditions of decking use and exposure.

Q: What colours does it come in?
A: Acadia, which is jarrah reddish, Mahogany, which is dark brown, Cedar and Grey.

Q: What are the dimensions of CorrectDeck?
A: 139mm wide x 25mm thick x 4.9metres in length

Q: Is CorrectDeck maintenance-free?
A: Virtually! It will require periodic sweeping and the occasional hose off like any other outdoor area; however, unlike wood it doesn’t need to be sanded, stained, sealed, stripped and re-finished continually.

Q: Does CorrectDeck provide good traction?
A: Yes. It isn't slippery, which makes it safe for children and it's splinter free. It's actually less slippery than wood and is ADA approved for ramps, etc. The deep wood grain and fine wood particles mix make a board that isn't slippery.

Q: Does CorrectDeck get hot like wood?
A: No - Not as hot as painted or stained wood. The deep wood grain and thin profile, in combination with IR-reflecting pigments help keep it cool underfoot.

Q: Is CorrectDeck subject to surface scratching, what can be done to correct this?
A: CorrectDeck is extremely hard. Surface scratching from moving furniture, sand on shoes, pets etc is not a problem like it can be with softer woods and other types of decking.

Q: How does CorrectDeck react to below freezing temperatures?
A: CorrectDeck is made to withstand all types of weather.

Q: How does CorrectDeck react in hot weather?
A: CorrectDeck is great for hot climates. It will not sag between joists.

Q: Will insects damage CorrectDeck decking?
A: No, it is too dense.

Q: Does CorrectDeck weigh more or less than typical wood?
A: At just over 3kgs per metre it is more than most types of timber.

Q: How do I cut CorrectDeck?
A: Use a carbide-tipped combination blade. When ripping, use a ripping blade, which has deeper notches to clear shavings.

Q: How far can the decking boards span?
A: 450mm

Q: Can I cantilever/overhang the material over the edge of my deck?
A: Yes, 100mm

Q: Can I router the boards?
A: Yes, it routs easily.

Q: Can I put down CorrectDeck over a concrete slab?
A: You may install CorrectDeck over an existing concrete slab. There are a few things that you need to do.

1. CorrectDeck requires a minimum of 38mm spacing under the decking.

The more air flow and water drainage spacing the better.

2. Due to the rigidity of CorrectDeck, when you are installing over concrete you will need to make your frame "Floating". Do NOT anchor the frame into the concrete in any way. The reason for this is because with the small air space under the deck, water that accumulates under the deck will want to expand and push on the bottom of the deck. A "Floating" frame will allow for the deck to move without putting excessive pressure on the deck boards causing the deck to fail.

3. Account for proper drainage. Keep in mind that water and possible debris from trees, dirt, grass etc. will find its way under your deck. Proper water flow channels should be put in your framing to allow that to come out.

Q: Will fungus grow on it?
A: Not as easily as paving bricks or wood but it will grow in the right conditions. Sweep and clean the deck, and make sure the underdeck area is clean and dry.

Q: Will it grow mould or mildew?
A: While CorrectDeck contains an anti-fungal, it's possible that fungus or algae may grow on your deck if leaves or dirt pile up. Sweep or pressure-wash your deck to avoid this. Avoid getting fertilizers from your lawn and garden on your deck. Clean leaves out of the gutters and make sure that water cannot pool on your deck

Q: How do I get stains out?
A: CorrectDeck is very resistant to staining however heavy grease/motor oil/greasy boots may stain a deck. Use a water based degreaser.

Q: What about stains from cooking oil, fat drippings, juices, etc?
A: Again whilst CorrectDeck is very resistant to staining, fat drippings etc can mark your deck. We suggest you use a mat around your barbeque to cut down on the exposure to grease.  Use a water based degreaser for stubborn marks.

Q: Can I use sandpaper to remove stains?
A: No, CorrectDeck is too hard.

Q: Will the chlorine from our swimming pool or other chemicals damage the material?
A: No. It is great around pools.

Q: Can I power wash my deck?
A: Yes, up to 1500 psi and 300 ºF.

Q: Would vacuuming with an electric broom or using a blower be just as good as a weekly dry broom sweep?
A: Yes.

Q: Will the product fade?
A: Like most outdoor products CorrectDeck will fade over time however unlike timber, CorrectDeck will never warp, rot, splinter or require sealing.

Q: Will the colour on every board be the same as material made at a different time?
A: No, colour variation is intrinsic to the recovered wood fibre we make it from. Most colour variations will weather out in the first few weeks.
